Undefeated Amir Khan takes on Martin Kristjansen to determine the contender for the WBO World lightweight title.

Amir Khan will box in front of his home crowd at the Bolton arena and faces Martin Kristjansen for a shot at the WBO lightweight belt, currently held by veteran Nate Campbell. The pair were due to meet in February, but illness forced Kristjansen to withdraw.

Instead, Khan defeated Gairy St Clair, a late replacement, to win the Commonwealth Lightweight title and it was his first fight to last all 12 rounds. However, Khan won via a unanimous decision on 120-108 from all three ringside judges.

Kristjansen is ranked by the WBO as the number two lightweight and has a professional record of 19 wins (5 KO), three draws and one defeat from a total of 23 fights. The Dane has never been stopped although did lose to Stefano Zoff in Italy back in 2005 via a unanimous decision.

Promoter Frank Warren is looking at opportunities for Khan to succeed Naseem Hamed as the youngest ever British world champion. Possible opponents include Nate Campbell, who holds the WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight titles, while fellow American David Diaz holds the WBC championship belt.
