Newcastle United still hunt for their first victory under returning manager Kevin Keegan but will not get much sympathy from resilient Aston Villa.

The return of Kevin Keegan has not panned out as owner Mike Ashley would have liked. Newcastle United, traditionally an attacking, cavalier side under Keegan, have struggled for form and only managed their first goal under him in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough.

The Magpies were three minutes away from victory until Boro’s Robert Huth grabbed a late equaliser and now Keegan’s side search for their first victory in nine matches. While they look over their shoulder at the relegation zone, Aston Villa have not been on top form either of late. Despite their lofty top six position they are looking for their first win in four matches.

A defeat at lowly Fulham last week and draws against Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers in the matches prior to that will mean Martin O’Neill will expect nothing less than a victory at Saturday lunchtime.

Aston Villa have a decent home record this season, winning seven of the 13 played at Villa Park and face a Newcastle team which are tradtionally poor on the road. This season is no exception with the Magpies losing eight of the 12 played away from St. James’ Park so far.
