Celtic twice took the lead against Barcelona but the La Liga side won it late on and will be favourites to progress when the two meet again at the Nou Camp.
Celtic have proven they can compete with the best in Europe in this season’s Champions League and the 2-3 scoreline will give them a glimmer of hope of progression.
1 - 0 Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (16 minutes)
Hesselink gave Celtic the perfect start with a powerful diving header after just 16 minutes.
1 - 1 Lionel Messi (18 minutes)
The lead lasted just two minutes when Messi played a one-two with Deco and chipped over the onrushing Boruc from six yards.
2 - 1 Barry Robson (38 minutes)
Celtic took the lead before the break when Robson looped in a header from 12 yards.
2 - 2 Thierry Henry (52 minutes)
The pick of the bunch. Henry levelled seven minutes into the second half with a sublime curling effort from just inside the box.
2 - 3 Lionel Messi (79 minutes)
Messi broke Celtic hearts with some close control in the penalty box and tucked in an effort which went in off keeper Boruc.
