Celtic will look to avenge their 3-2 defeat at Inverness Caledonian Thistle suffered in December as they attempt to catch Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier.

Inverness pulled off one of the results of the Scottish Premier season when they battled from 2-0 down to beat Celtic 3-2 at the Caledonian Stadium in December. A double from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink put Gordon Strachan’s side in a commanding position after 26 minutes but John Rankin, David Proctor and Don Cowie recorded a memorable victory for Charlie Christie’s side.

When Celtic played Inverness in September at Parkhead, they thrashed them 5-0 with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink netting twice and Massimo Donati, Shunsuke Nakamura and an own goal from Phil McGuire completing the rout. Since losing at Thistle, Celtic are unbeaten in their subsequent eight SPL matches, winning seven of them. They may have only beaten St Mirren 1-0 on the weekend but a similar result to that in September is not out of the question on Wednesday night.

Inverness currently sit in eight position in the Scottish Premier and since their famous victory over Celtic, have won just three of the subsequent 10 fixtures. Christie’s side are not the best on the road either, losing nine out of 14 played this season and they are in danger of a heavy defeat if Gordon Strachan’s side are in the mood.

If Celtic are too reduce the four point lead arch rivals Rangers hold at the top of the Scottish Premier they cannot afford any slip ups at home against the likes of Inverness.
