Group A reaches boiling point in its final game of the group stages with this matchup between Turkey and the Czech Republic, both vying for a spot in the quarter finals. Both teams are even in the table with three points each and matching goal differences, so this match will decide who will advance because Portugal have already guaranteed progression.

Turkey will take much away from its last encounter against Switzerland, when they won 2-1 in dramatic fashion, coming back from 1-0 down to snatch victory in the dying moments, Arda Turan scoring in extra time with the help of a deflection. They were unable to match the pace of the young forwards and caught on the counter-attack twice, eventually losing 3-1.

They remain a talented and experienced side and will take heart from the good performance of Milan Baros, who started in place of veteran Jan Koller and whose pace and creativity added another dimension to the Czech attack. As Euro 2004 semi-finalists, they will be driven and determined against Turkey, this match may well go to penalties.
