The Blues are unbeaten in their last four away and have not conceded in their last three away from home in Europe. Chelsea are the best defensively in this season’s tournament, conceding just two in eight games so far and a clean sheet against Fenerbahce would equal the club record of four matches in a row set in the 2003/04 season.

Both teams prepared for this encounter with weekend victories. Chelsea rode their luck to record a 1-0 victory against Middlesbrough on Sunday, with Ricardo Carvalho heading in an early winner, while Fenerbahce beat Besiktas 2-1 on Saturday and are two points clear at the top of the Super Lig.

Chelsea could be in for a shock on Wednesday night against a Fenerbahce side that has won its last five home matches in Europe. Teams such as Inter Milan and Sevilla have both come unstuck against Zico’s side in Turkey and while Chelsea are going wel, they have been unconvincing. Avram Grant’s side were fortunate to beat Middlesbrough on the weekend and they have looked suspect in defence away from home, as the 4-4 draw at Tottenham Hotspur suggests.
