The best set-piece takers in the world gathered in Houston to  determine who would be crowned the Free Kick Master 2008!

The likes of Ronaldinho, Rafael Marquez, Lionel Messi, Jared Borgetti, David James and Francesco Toldo took part but it was Barcelona defender Marquez who was victorious, beating former Bolton Wanderers striker Borgetti in the final.

The tournament was set up as follows: each player had seven shots in order to beat a wall and goalkeeper. Each had two free kick attempts from 18, 21 and 25 metres and had one shot from 30 metres. The latter with no defensive wall and just a goalkeeper to beat.

After all seven shots had been taken, the players could then use the Golden Ball bonus, which allowed them one final shot from one of the distances mentioned. This bonus shot was worth twice as many points as before, with 18 metres worth 10 points, 21 metres 15 points, 25 metres 20 points and 30 metres a whopping 30 points.
