European champions Greece were dumped out of the tournament after losing by a single goal to Russia.

Greece have been a shadow of the side that won Euro 2004 and after two defeats in as many matches, without scoring a single goal, they have no chance of reaching the quarter finals. The victory for Russia sets up a “winner takes all” encounter with Sweden next week, with the victor joining Spain in the last eight.

0 - 1 Konstantin Zyrianov (33 minutes)

Zenit midfielder Zyryanov netted the winner from close range after Sergei Semak took advantage of a mistake by Greece goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis.

Roman Pavlyuchenko is denied by Nikopolidis two minutes into the second half.

This time, Pavlyuchenko misses the target after a good run on 52 minutes.

Panathinaikos midfielder Giorgos Karagounis sees a thunderous shot well saves by Igor Akinfeev a minute later.
