Rangers will be confident of beating Hearts on Wednesday evening having defeated them twice already this season.

Rangers maintained a four point advantage at the top of the Scottish Premier with a 4-2 victory against bottom club Gretna. Daniel Cousin, who looks set to join Fulham, broke the deadlock after 12 minutes and strikes from Steven Naismith and Chris Burke gave Walter Smith’s side a commanding lead an hour into the match. Kenny Deuchar scored either side of a strike from Kris Boyd to give Mick Wadsworth’s strugglers some respectibility.

Hearts are still in the hunt for a place in next seasons UEFA Cup after a slender victory at Motherwell on the weekend. They needed to rely on a Steven Craigan own goal to gift them all three points but the victory takes them above Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Aberdeen who both lost.

Hearts recorded a superb victory against Rangers back in September but . Walter Smith’s side have won seven out of 11 matches on the road this season while Hearts have lost five times in 13 matches at Tynecastle. Rangers have won their last nine Scottish Premier fixtures in a row and with Celtic still pressing hard to catch them, they cannot afford any mistakes domestically from now until the end of the season. Hearts have won three of their last four but crashed 3-0 at Celtic 10 days ago and they could suffer a similar fate against the Gers.
