English Premiership side Newcastle United will play German Bundesliga outfit Hertha BSC Berlin in a pre-season friendly which pits two mid-table sides that have failed to really fire recently against each other. Newcastle has been far from sensational despite some solid performances last season, while Hertha Berlin will be grateful for FIFA Fair Play qualification for the UEFA Cup after an everage domestic season in 2007-08.

Hertha Berlin have been German Champions twice, but not in the last 75 years, and their most recent Cup success was winning the Intertoto Cup in 2006. Newcastle United have also not won a league title in the last 75 years, despite being runners-up in the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons. The club boasts an impressive lineup including, Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Geremi and goalkeeper Shay Given, but their performance in the Premiership was disappointing last season, only managing twelfth place.
