Italy 1 Romania 1 Highlights

Romania held world champions Italy to a 1-1 draw and even missed a late penalty which would have dumped the Italians out of Euro 2008.

Romania earned their second point in as many Group C games when they held Italy to a draw. Two goals in as many minutes saw Adrian Mutu give Romania the lead only for Christian Panucci to equalise moments later. Former Chelsea striker Mutu then saw a late penalty saved by Gianluigi Buffon.

Fiorentina striker Mutu latched onto a poor back header by Gianluca Zambrotta and fired Romania into the lead.

1 - 1 Christian Panucci (56 minutes)

However, the lead last barely a minute when Panucci bundled in a corner from close range.

Christian Chivu sees his deflected free kick strike the post.

Luca Toni’s goal on the stroke of half time is ruled out for offside.

A penalty from Mutu nine minutes before the end is saved by goalkeeper Buffon.
