Chelsea’s next match in their pre-season build up is against Russian Prremier League contenders Lokomotiv Moscow. Many have agrued that Russia’s football league are not on the same level as many of the other major European countries’ leagues, but the national side’s recent performance in Euro 2008 has raised some eyebrows about the potential of the nation’s football talent.

Nevertheless, a trophy-less season saw Grant get the axe and owner Roman Abramovich brought in Brazilian manager Jose Felipe Scolari, who wasted no time-or money- in securing the services of Barcelona and Portgual midfielder Deco. The Blues have quickly becoming favourites in English competition since Russian oil magnate Abramovich bought the club and funneled a great deal of money into investing in foreign stars.

With so much star power, though, comes enormous pressure, and Chelsea will be anxious to perform in their upcoming campaign. This match should not present too much of a problem for the English giants, as the Russian side had a disappointing season in 2007-08 and will not yet be back to their best.
