English Premiership giants and UEFA Champion’s League semi-finalists Liverpool travel to Switzerland to take on Luzern in the pre-season friendly.

Liverpool go into the match off the back of a 1-0 victory at Tranmere Rovers on Saurday in which they dominated. A moment of magic from Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun won it for the Reds shortly before half time and Rafa Benitez’s side will be fully expected to beat their Swiss opponents.

New signings Diego Cavalieri and Philipp Degen made their debuts in the second half, while Udinese’s Andrea Dossena could feature against Luzern. Benitez will not be able to call upon Peter Crouch, who joined Portsmouth in a £9 million deal or Danny Guthrie, who left for Newcastle for £2.5 million earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, Swiss outfit Luzern will need to play their best to stand a chance against a decorated and experience side such as Liverpool. While the team was a national league title to their name- in 1989- they have only recently been promoted to Swiss Super League after being relegated in 2002.
