French champions in waiting Lyon will be full expected to see off mid table Ligue Two side Sedan to reach the final of the Coupe de France.

Its still not clear who will end up in the Cup final this year, but with Sedan performing as well as they have been, the projected final play off of Paris St Germain and Lyon is still far from certain. It is undeniable that Lyon have been performing well this season and Wednesday’s semi final will be no easy match for Sedan.

Karim Benzema has been on red hot form this season, with 19 goals so far and Juninho, Govou, Ben Afra and Fred are all proving to be dangerous strikers at this level. Despite an abundance of attacking talent, Lyon have drawn with Nice and Caen in recent weeks and it just might be that the team isn’t performing at 100%. If this is the case they have until Wednesday to pull themselves together and get playing their A-game.

Sedan have been having a far more modest season, with Mokake, Bonnet, Lucau, Sow and Abdoun all playing steadily, but without the kind of flare and fire that has been seen from the Lyon attackers. However, there have been some moments of great inspiration from the Sedan team and no one can deny that they deserve to be in the Cup semi finals.

Last week’s victory against Libourne-St Seurin shows how solidly Sedan can play at times this season but their previous match, in which they were defeated 2-1 by Clermont proved their inconsistency, hence a current eighth place in Ligue Two.

Lyon are undoubtedly the strongest side in France and would have wrapped up a seventh consecutive league title if they had managed to beat Nice on Saturday. Lyon have stuttered in recent weeks but they should have far too much for Sedan, a division below them and themselves no great shakes. The Ligue Two side knocked out title challengers Bordeaux in the quarter finals, albeit on penalties after a goalless draw and that will give them confidence to compete against the best opponents this competition has to offer. Despite this, it is very difficult to see anything beyond a comfortable victory for Lyon.
