Everton replaced rivals Liverpool in fourth spot with an important away victory at Manchester City, themselves in the hunt for a Champions League place.

Sven Goran Eriksson’s side were poor on Monday night, not registering a shot on target until the final five minutes while Everton were clinical in the first half, scoring two goals eight minutes apart.

0 - 1 Yakubu (30 minutes)

Tim Cahill played the ball into the six yard box and Yakubu fired it in first time to give the Toffees the lead.

0 -2 Joleon Lescott (38 minutes)

Lescott doubled Everton’s lead eight minutes later when he headed in a deep cross from Lee Carsley.
