Manchester City look to build on their victory over rivals United while Everton will be buzzing from a 6-1 UEFA Cup victory on Thursday night.

Manchester City have had two weeks to prepare for this match following their derby day victory at Old Trafford against Manchester United. City have lost just once at home in 13 matches played this season, in their last game at Eastlands against Arsenal, who beat them 3-1. Gelson Fernandes scored to pull the score back to 2-1 but a double from Adebayor and one from Eduaro ruined City’s unbeaten home record.

City enjoy playing Everton at home and have won their last two meetings, 2-1 and 2-0. They have also won five of their last six, their last defeat a 1-0 reverse in the 2004/05 season when Tim Cahill scored the winner on the hour. Goal scoring at home was a problem associated with the team last season but Sven Goran Eriksson’s side have scored 21 at home this season and new signing Benjani got off the mark on his debut against United a fortnight ago.

Everton are pressing hard for success domestically and in Europe. Prior to the weekend fixtures they occupied fourth spot, three points ahead of local rivals Liverpool and crushed SK Brann 8-1 on aggregate in their UEFA Cup tie midweek. The Toffees have a decent record on the road this season, winning six out 14 played, losing four and drawing the other three. David Moyes’ side are unbeaten in their last three away trips, drawing 0-0 at Blackburn, beating Wigan 2-1 and Middlesbrough 2-0.

Manchester City have had plenty of time to prepare for this match and Sven Goran Eriksson will be encouraged by the way his side won at Old Trafford a fortnight ago. City have a great record against the Toffees who may still be feeling the effects of a midweek UEFA Cup tie, despite coasting to a 6-1 victory against SK Brann.
