On a week where the Munich air disaster was remembered, the towns two clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City go head to head at Old Trafford.

Second-placed Manchester United, now two points adrift of leaders Arsenal following last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, need to return to winning ways fast if they are to maintain their title bid.

The draw at White Hart Lane brought to an end a run of four consecutive victories for Alex Ferguson’s side and perhaps could not have asked for a more difficult opponent as they attempt to return to winning form. United have only beaten City at Old Trafford once in the previous three meetings and Sven Goran Eriksson’s Manchester City will be confident on their chances at the home of their greatest rivals.

City also have the psychological edge over United this season, having beaten them 1-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium in August. Geovanni’s goal after 31 minutes proved crucial on the day.

After failing to win in their last three fixtures, including a 3-1 home defeat by Arsenal and 1-1 draw at rock-bottom Derby County, City also need to improve their form if they are to challenge for a Champions League berth. They currently occupy seventh place and are just three points adrift of fourth position.
