The Republic of Ireland must follow up Saturday’s victory with another tricky away trip against newly-formed Montenegro.

The Republic of Ireland recorded all three points on Saturday when they defeated Georgia by a 2-1 scoreline. Getting off to a winning start away from home is very important, especially at a placer where far higher ranked teams have come unstuck.

Reading striker Kevin Doyle gave Ireland the perfect start with an opening goal after 13 minutes and Glenn Whelan secured the win with 20 minutes left. Levan Kenia set up a tense finish two minutes into stoppage time but Ireland held firm.

Despite an early Stilian Petrov goal, Montenegro battled back to lead 2-1 only for 10-man Bulgaria to snatch a draw in stoppage time. The team, spear-headed by Roma’s Mirko Vucinic will not be a pushover on Wednmesday night.
