Cardiff City could win the FA Cup for the first time since 1927 if they overcome Premiership side Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Portsmouth finished the Premiership season in a respectable eighth place while Cardiff City perhaps underachieved with their twelfth placed finish in the Championship. Both teams are hoping for the victory that would give their fans much needed silverware and also secure lucrative UEFA Cup football next season.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is still undecided over his starting line up for Saturday’s Cup Final in Wembley, although captain Sol Campbell and keeper David James have both been passed fit and they will be on the starting line up. Despite a solid finishing place in the league, Sunday’s defeat against Fulham was their fourth consecutive loss as several players had their minds on Wembley.

Saturday will be Pompey’s first appearance in an FA Cup Final since 1939 and they are hot favourites to beat their Championship opponents.

Cardiff City enter the match as the underdogs, but that will suit them fine. Highly rated midfielder Joe Ledley says they have a brilliant opportunity to make their mark in the FA Cup Final and he should know better than most, having scored the winner against Barnsley in the semi final. This is a great chance for a sometimes under-fire Cardiff squad to record an historic, if not highly unlikely FA Cup victory.
