Two sides in the lower reaches of Ligue One, Paris St Germain and Auxerre meet in the semi final of the Coup de la Ligue on Tuesday night.

The Coup de la Ligue is likely to be the only route into Europe for both Paris St Germain and Auxerre with both clubs struggling in Ligue One and Auxerre already out of the French Cup. PSG get home advantage at the Parc des Princes although they have been poor in the league, winning just twice at home, drawing five times and losing on six occasions. Paris St Germain reached this stage after beating FC Lorient 3-0 in the third round, Montpellier 2-0 in the fourth round and Valenciennes 4-0 in the quarter final, while Auxerre beat Saint Etienne 1-0 after extra time in the third round, Nice 6-2 after extra time in the fourth round and Marseille 1-0 in the quarter final.

This could be Paris St Germain’s best chance of glory this season and a route into Europe for next. While both they and Auxerre are struggling for form, Paul Le Guen could take advantage of Auxerre’s dreadful away record and reach the Coupe de la Ligue final for the first time in eight years.
