Real Madrid stormed eight points clear of nearest La Liga rivals Barcelona after putting on a masterclass in finishing against Valladolid last weekend. Even without leading goal scorer Ruud van Nistelrooy and losing Robinho after just 15 minutes, the reigning champions scored seven times without reply and were 5-0 ahead before the break.

They currently occupy sixteenth position but are just one point clear of the relegation zone after losing their last two fixtures, including last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Valencia and a 1-0 home defeat by Deportivo La Coruna. They are inconsistent at home, winning just four out 11 played at the Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, losing four and drawing three.

On current form, the obvious choice is Real Madrid who have won eight of their last nine La Liga fixtures. While 11 straight victories at home prove Madrid are almost unbeatable on their own turf, they are also formidable away, winning seven out of 12 on the road, losing three and drawing the other two.
