Real Madrid must return to winning ways at struggling Recreativo Huelva or they will be in danger of surrendering their lead at the top of La Liga.

Real Madrid lost their first match of the season at the Bernabeu on Sunday when City rivals Getafe beat them 1-0. The defeat saw their lead at the summit of La Liga slashed to just three points after Barcelona beat Levante 5-1 on the same evening. Real’s players were celebrating a “goal” scored by Arjen Robben but the referee had not awarded it and Getafe went straight up the other end of the pitch and netted a winner through Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche. Bernd Schuster’s side must now focus on beating lowly Recreativio Huelva, despite a Champions League match against Roma next Tuesday, which they trail 2-1 from the first leg.

Recreativo are fourth from bottom and just two points clear of the relegation zone. They have been consistently inconsistent this season, winning four, drawing four and losing four at home. Their results have picked up in recent weeks and Manolo Zambrano’s side have won two of their last four matches and are unbeaten in their last three.

The two sides have not played eachother often and Madrid edged out Recreativo 3-2 when they played at the Nuevo Colombino last season. Ruud van Nistelrooy and Gonzalo Higuain were on target as Real won 2-0 at the Bernabeu earlier in the season. While Recreativo have not beaten Real at home, they registered a shock 3-0 victory at the Bernabeu at the tail end of last season.
