Ricky Hatton faces Mexican Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester Stadium as a “thank-you” contest in honour of the support of his fans throughout his professional boxing career.

Hatton returns to his home city to fight for the first time since 2005, when he beat Australian Kostya Tszyu in the eleventh round. Should he win on Saturday, which he is the bookmakers favourite to do so, he could face IBF Welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in Madison Square Garden. Hatton could also earn a lucrative bout in Wembley Stadium next year against the winner of the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya.

Lazcano lost his last fight, a WBC Lightweight Title Eliminator bout against Vivian Harris in February 2007 and has had plenty of time to prepare against Hatton. He has a professional record of 37 wins (27 KO), one draw and four defeats, including being knocked out once.

Hatton, in comparison, has a professional record of 43 wins (31 KO) and one defeat which was the knockout by Floy Mayweather back in December.
