Spain cast aside their “bottlers” tag with a penalty shoot out victory against World champions Italy.
Spain attempted to play attacking football throughout this quarter final clash but were stifled by a very defensive minded Italy. Spain had the better of the chances and were unlucky not to win it 10 minutes before the end when Gianluigi Buffon dropped a long range effort from Marcos Senna which was only kept out by the post.
