A double from Simon Vukcevic secured a first leg UEFA Cup victory for Sporting Lisbon at home to Basel.

Sporting Lisbon gave themselves some breathing space for the return leg in Switzerland when a goal in each half from Simon Vukcevic ensured a 2-0 first leg advantage.

The Montengran striker’s first time effort took a deflection of a defender and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

If the first goal was fortunate, the second was class. The former Partizan Belgrade and FC Saturn star half-volleyed in from a tight angle and the ball went in off the crossbar.
