The two teams, Stockport and Wycombe, fought out in an entertaining match of the first leg of semi final play-offs. But in the end, both teams walked away as equals on 1-1 draw. Wycombe, who had protected their lead for most part of the game, cracked when their defence watched helplessly as Stockport’s Stephen Gleeson, equalised for his team with an amazing 25 yard volley. At least one of the teams will have to come out stronger when they meet each other again in the second leg of the play offs.

Both halves of the game were controlled by Wycombe after they had taken the lead half way through the opening of the first half. Can Wycombe’s star striker Delroy Facey, repeat his miraculous goal in the second clash?

Certainly Wycombe’s boss, Paul Lambert, thinks so. He says that Stockport’s last goal does not really change the fact that Wycombe were by far the better team and will still be in the next game. Stockport’s goal was just a reminder for the defence that they have to awake at all times. He has confidence that his team will come out as the winners, since they are both good at attacking and counter attacking.

Whilst on the other hand, Stockport also believe that they will come out of their second clash as the finalists of the play offs. Stockport’s boss, Jim Gannon, says that he is happy that none of his players were injured in the first leg clash. The referee, he says, was not as strict as he was supposed to be. He has vowed that he will ensure his team is well ready to face their rivals, Wycombe, in their second clash.

Stephen Gleeson’s late goal for Wycombe gave the Hatters an away goal advantage over Wycombe ahead of the return leg at Edgley Park. County will be confident of seing out the second leg, especially as they hammered the Chairboys 6-0 in December, with former Wolves striker Adam Proudlock netting a hat trick. The first leg draw means Wycombe have failed to beat Stockport in three attempts this season and only once in eight meetings during the last three seasons.
