Rangers managed to edge through to the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup despite a 1-0 defeat at Werder Bremen.

Rangers clung onto their 2-0 first leg advantage and had goalkeeper Allan McGregor in inspired form as they sustained long spells of pressure from the Bundesliga side. Brazilian midfielder Diego broke the deadlock 12 minutes after the break but the Gers held firm.

A poorly dealt with cross fell to Chelsea target Diego who flicked the ball over the head of one defender before firing in from 20 yards.
