Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen cruised to a 3-0 first leg UEFA Cup victory over Braga, but the Portuguese side were guilty of missing two penalties.
Werder Bremen set the pace with a goal after just four minutes but then Austrian forward Roland Linz missed a penalty to draw the game level just six minutes later. Former Porto striker Jorginho missed the chance to pull one back from the spot after 36 minutes, by which time his side were 2-0 down.
1 - 0 Naldo (four minutes)
The Brazilian defender scored directly from a free kick some 35 yards out to break the deadlock early on.
2 - 0 Daniel Jensen (27 minutes)
Jense doubled the lead after 27 minutes with a curling shot from the edge of the area.
3 - 0 Hugo Almeida (penalty 90 minutes)
The Portuguese striker completed a flattering victory in stoppage time from the penalty spot, ironically after Braga missed two during the game.
